Quote from The Economy of Cities by Jane Jacobs

“Mark’s thought the principal conflict to be found in economic life, at any rate in industrialized countries, was the deep disparity of interests between owners and employees, but this is a secondary kind of conflict… The primary conflict, I think, is between people whose interests are with already well established economic activities, and those whose interests are with the emergence of new economic activities”

I thought this was an interesting perspective of power struggles that I hadn’t thought about before. What immediately comes to my mind, and is mentioned in the book, is the struggle between car manufacturers and alternative modes of transportation. What are your thoughts?
