Question- Coloring

Hello all, I use clip studio paint pro. I can’t color my drawings nicely because every time I go to use paint bucket tool to start filling in major things it’s spotty or it doesn’t work and fills up half the canvas or something. Should I work on more simple line art thats well defined and connected? Can somebody give tips? Coloring with a brush is really messy so.
