How much SHOULD teachers make?

It’s conventional wisdom that teachers don’t make enough, so I’m curious; what WOULD be “enough”? Like, factoring for an area’s cost of living - which obviously varies greatly among districts and areas - what would be fair and reasonable?

Thinking of it like a taxpayer, who sees referenda come through every few years regarding property taxes and schools.
