How often are you all buying shoes?
Preface: my boyfriend thinks my spending habits around running shoes are irresponsible, but he's not a runner, so I thought I'd ask other running gals how fast you go through running shoes? I run seasonally (March-November-ish) and tend to buy a new pair of pricey shoes (previous year's model of brooks glycerin) every year. I have a LONG history of different types of tendinitis and fasciitis in my feet from overtraining while running cross country in high school and college, so I'm always extra cautious with the shoes I wear and how often I replace them. As soon as the weather gets above freezing consistently, I get the running itch again, and I buy a new pair of shoes to start the summer off right (and help ensure I stay injury free as I build my mileage back up to 20-30 miles per week). Also it just adds to the excitement of getting back into it! I'll usually rotate my old running shoes in for some shorter runs (<3 miles), muddy/rainy runs, or for walking, so I keep them around for at least 2 years. Also I'll sometimes thrift Brooks for walking if I can find them in good condition, but I won't run in them since I don't know how many miles are on them. So I can definitely see why someone would look at my collection and ask why I would need a new pair of shoes, but I feel like for runners this is not super uncommon? Let me know if I'm wrong though. I'm a really casual runner and maybe I don't need fancy new shoes every year, especially since I don't run year round.
