Misty Was Right

People are going after Misty for what she said to Lottie in the attic after the death of Javi, and while I understand that people are upset with her, I disagree that what she did was wrong. It might be harsh to seemingly pin this on Lottie, but her sentiment is correct. We haven’t seen if Misty truly believes in the wilderness or Lottie (I’m more of the belief that she simply follows whoever has power), but we do know that she is fully aware of Lottie’s power over the team. Her comment about “you started this” isn’t really untrue. Her decision to take on Shauna’s anger alone in order to protect the rest of the group, her comment about using her body, and her teachings of the wilderness all lead to this moment. The act of Shauna beating Lottie is a precursor to the hunt. It set the precedent of one member being “sacrificed” so they don’t all suffer. It also increased their loyalties to her, as we see when they’re all caring for her. Of course the girls wouldn’t allow Lottie to die for them after that. The point of the cards is to remove the guilt from themselves and place the choice upon the “Wilderness”, because they are not at a point where they could handle having a hand in someone’s death. If Lottie came downstairs and told them what they did was wrong, it would cause more problems and guilt than the girls could handle. Misty sees that Lottie can’t just act as an interpreter of the wilderness, but as a leader right now. What they need to hear is what Van told Travis, they need to allow themselves to be grateful to be alive. Otherwise the group could fall to pieces, and they need each other right now more than ever.
