Shauna is right - they all agreed
When I watched the end of 3x05, I was surprised like many others that no one had come to help Ben, until I realized everyone knew. Everyone knew because they definitely all AGREED to let someone do this to Ben. Of course, nobody would want to actually do it, so they sent Shauna who brought along Melissa. Natalie says Shauna doesn’t have to enjoy it so much, and Shauna says Natalie doesn’t have to pretend to be such a f*cking Saint. Because it’s TRUE.
Like many have said - passive violence is still violence. Just because Shauna or Melissa are the ones doing their dirty work, doesn’t make them worse than the others. It makes them honest with themselves. Shauna was right at the beginning of the season, writing in her journal about how everyone’s pretending everything’s okay, pretending they didn’t hunt and eat someone. In a way, the VIEWER is falling for the same tricks the other Yellowjackets are by viewing Shauna as some pariah who’s acting “crazy” or “deranged”. They’re all crazy and deranged. We saw them howling and hunting Natalie like two months prior.
What Shauna is doing with Melissa - telling her to not be afraid of the bad parts of herself - is what she wants everyone at the camp to be able to do. To admit they all have bad inside. To act on the things they keep voting on instead of trying to insist Shauna does it. To face their reality head on.
I am always so shocked by how mad people get at Shauna, playing some morality game when everyone else is just as bad, but just cowards. The adults aren’t all so messed up by accident. It’s because this is inside all of them, not just Shauna. After all, they all agreed.
