Replacement for A6300 kit lens?

The kit lens that came with my A6300 does not work anymore, when I try to connect it the lens is not accepted by the camera, and I get an error message along the lines of "lens cannot be attached properly". I took this to my local camera shop and they said that this is a common issue with the kit lens.

Well I have a portrait lens which is too specific for general out-and-about shooting, something that I used the kit lens for. So I would like to get a replacement, something with the versatility of the kit lens (which always worked great for me in good light), but even better.

I am pretty much an amateur with my camera, so looking for recommendations, and my local shop recommended the following:

​

1) Sony E 18-35mm f/ 3.5-5.6 OSS ; or

2) Sony Vario Tessar T* E 16-70mm f/ 4 ZA OSS

Can you advise which of these would make a good all-round kit lens replacement? Or another one not listed above if you think it would be a better option? Note: I shoot my small children often so something I can whip out and snap quickly with is best!
