How to intuitively understand environmental economics?
I'm looking through job openings on LinkedIn and noticing a strong overlap on posts looking for either engineers or environmental economics for energy cost analyses. Engineers have a lot more intuitive understanding behind their analyses whereas an (aspiring) economist (such as myself) has only the tools for the analyses without the intuition. It takes a lot of research for me to understand energy systems, but engineers have been at it for years.
So how do I start building up an intuitive understanding of environmental economics? What do I read? Where do I go? Do I take informal online classes? Read the DOE's briefs on energy efficiency?
Not going to lie, it makes me feel like my BA is inadequate compared to my competition. I will be upgrading my degree, but only after I work, but it appears that the internships I want won't be anywhere near the ones I end up getting.
