How do you feel about the phrase "Everything happens for a reason?"

I think I'm more of a nihilist in this sense, so whenever I hear the phrase "everything happens for a reason" it bugs me a little.

I realize people say it as a form of consolation, and I take it as that. I don't answer back and accept the fact that they were trying to console me and that's something I can appreciate, and what I choose to focus on instead.

How do you feel about it?
