Candle warming?

Those who warm candles, can you tell me the correct way to do it?? I bought a candle warmer and love love how much more scent I feel like I can smell from the candle. But I'm confused on how I know when the candles done? Do I warm a few different times then use cotton balls to take out some of the wax?
