First time gym expierence

For the first time in my life im going to the gym. My friend convinced me to get a pass because he wants to go and hes always calling me fat lmao. Im 217 and about 40 pounds overweight for my age (im 6'0). I want to gain muscle while also losing weight. I do play baseball in the summer/spring and want to become stronger. Right now im hinestly not enjoying the gym as its hard. Will it get easier as it goes and will I find to like it? I can run a mile in 13 minutes while running/stopping. Please give me some tips on what workouts to do and what to not do.
