Russell Crowe Comp

The Michael B. Jordan thread got me thinking, who among the A List actors today could pull of Maximus? Gladiator had the potential to be an all-time corny movie, except that Crowe, with great cast mates, acts the shit out of it and carries it on sheer charisma and movie star gravitas.

So, who among the A-List stars could pull that off today? Bear in mind, you need not only acting chops but the energy and build to pull of a credible Roman Commander and stoic vengeance. I know the popular answer would be Chalamet but he's just too baby faced and his "intense" just turns into screaming (the speech in The King and Dune 2). Not sure any of the Marvel guys can do it. Michael B. Jordan certainly can't (see Without Remorse).

Maybe Daniel Kaluuya? He had similar energy in Judas and Black Panther. Tom Hardy also came to mind. Oscar Isaac? Pedro Pascal?
