Why bollywood need more Ranbir Kapoor and not superstar !!!

This is a personal opinion, but I'd love to know what you all think. By “Ranbir Kapoor” here, I mean an actor who is passionate about the craft, willing to experiment, and ready to take risks.

In one interview, Ranbir mentioned that when he was young he received offers from top Bollywood directors. Rather than relying on his surname without honing his skills, he moved to New York to study filmmaking and method acting, because nowadays we see every month new nepo debuting without even having ounce of acting skills. He also assisted on films like Prem Granth (1996), Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999), and Black (2005).

After the debacle of his debut film, Saawariya, he could have chosen commercially appealing roles since he had access to some of top directors. Instead, he opted for challenging, niche films such as Rocket Singh, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Wake Up Sid (2009), Anjaana Anjaani, and Raajneeti (2010). He further experimented with his craft in Rockstar (2011) and Barfi! (2012). It’s a hard truth but you will never reach superstar status with these films. Rishi Kapoor even advised him to stop doing art films like Barfi!.

With his latest release, Animal, Ranbir took one of the biggest risks of his career, embracing a role that could tarnish his public image even after knowing his potential red flag image in public. I don't think any mainstream actors would have the courage to step out of their comfort zones like that.

Bollywood’s creative decline is rooted in its obsession with superstars. Why would anyone work hard when repeating the same roles offers easy money and fame? Even his upcoming projects appear to be some of the most ambitious and challenging, though equally difficult to execute.

Today’s Indian audience has access to global content that is far superior to what Bollywood usually offers, raising their expectations. With every new batch of nepotism-backed actors, we might see Bollywood sink even lower creatively.
