Books for Getting into Reading

I feel a bit embarrassed posting this, but I don’t think I’ve ever read a book for leisure. I’ve read plenty for school / work assignments and have thoroughly enjoyed those books, but all of those previous times, it was for quizzes, mandatory assignments, articles on how things work, etc.

Now that I’m in my early 20s, I really want to make it a goal of mine to finally read a book for fun, but I’m a little overwhelmed by the amount of choices. From what I’ve read in the past, I really enjoyed fantastical settings (such as 1984, 11000 Years Lost, Beowulf, and Treasure Island), and period pieces (such as Pride and Prejudice and Anne of Green Gables).
