What is wrong with this weed??

I’m a stoner smoke everyday all day lol. My birthday is coming up so a friend of my got me an oz from his plug. Well when he gave it to me it’s smells and looks good I was happy. I went to get my pipe. while I was breaking down a big nugget it fell spongy and dry on the out side. When I got closer to the stem it was a bit more sticky and stem was dry. Well when I go to lite up on my pipe it was hard to lite and keep it lit. Taste like shi** and didn’t get me really high. I felt like a buzz. Is there something I can do to fix this or is it trashy weed ?
