Does my car have timing chain?

I have been driving Merc C220 142 make for about a year and half now and it’s driving really nice and no complaints.

Recently got this serviced and since I didnt know when the timing chain was last done, I asked the garage to check if it’s needed and to my surprise he told this model doesn’t come with a timing chain.

I’m no mechanic but I always thought any ICE engine would have a timing chain or belt in it.

Two queries:

1. Are there really ICE car makes with no timing chain/belt in it? Is there a way I can verify myself using VIN or something?

2. This is an automatic one. Do we need to service the gearbox on this one? If yes, then how frequently and what are signs that gearbox needs a service or regular maintenance?
