Review 7 LCA X Cavalier Oddjob

Summary: 2.3. I expect better from LCA and Cavalier. Harsh taste, horrible draw. Not at all what I expected.

Wrapper: Viso Jalapa Nicaraguan

Binder: Honduran Habano

Filler: Honduran, nicaraguan and Paraguayan

Pairing: Classic Dr. Pepper

Cold draw: heavy notes of woods, I personally tasted more of deeper and heavier wood note, something more like spruce or oak, however more people say cedar. Light notes of hay and light sweet notes of cocoa powder.

1/3: oof, I’m not sure where to begin. It started off very bland, the note of hay and minor notes of burnt toast. There was also a lingering flavor metallic and chemical flavor but it wasn’t too over whelming. There was a very tight, almost non existent draw, I did have to use a draw enhancement tool.

2/3: remember that chemical and metallic flavor from the first third? Don’t worry! It came back! And it was absolutely all that was able to be tasted throughout this third. Literally no other flavor other than chemical and metallic taste. I did attempt purging and it basically laughed at me. The draw was also still tight so I had to hit it again with a draw enhancement tool.

3/3: this third offered a lot more flavor, the metallic and chemical taste vanished. This third offered a very herbal taste, something closer to a garlic bread flavor. There was minor sweetness to this third as well, but I couldn’t define the note.

Overall: I expected so much better LCA and Cavalier are two of my favorites and I was so excited for this collaboration but this was rough. The taste being harsh and borderline toxic for how long it was, the draw being non existent and it kept plugging. I just expected so much more and I was very disappointed. But they can’t all be winners.

Score 2.3

1: waste of money/ would rather burn my wallet than buy again 2: meh/just okay 3:average/ the standard 4: great/ would buy again 5: drop everything and run!
