Madonna's "Like a Prayer" isn't about what anyone thinks it is about

It's actually a sick song. And, I am not talking about it's double meaning for late night oral sex, which many people are aware of. The song actually has a third meaning: the song is about hypnotic mind control.

Let's go through an analysis of the lyrics, and I'll bold what is particularly relevant with a small explanation after the verse.

Intro//Reprise:

Life is a mystery

Everyone must stand alone

I hear you call my name

And it feels like home

This could mean many things. It's certainly a bit confusing, right? When who calls her name? God? A man? What does she mean by "feeling like home"? If the song is about god, we could make this make sense. Her connection to the divine feels like her home, spiritually seeking. But - if the song is about oral sex with a man - which it obviously is, then it's hard to make it make sense. But if it's about hypnotic mind control and disassociation, it could. But I don't expect you to be remotely convinced yet.

Chorus:

When you call my name

It's like a little prayer

I'm down on my knees

I want to take you there

In the midnight hour

I can feel your power

Just like a prayer

You know I'll take you there

So, if this verse was about mind control, it would be saying that the handler has control over her and she wants to follow his commands. In this case, the command would be oral sex. She's down on her knees both because it's a position for oral sex (and prayer) but also a subservient position. Something not uncommon for mind control. What better way to abuse your power, and demonstrate your power, than with sexual commands over your victim. In particular, "I can feel your power" is a reference to both the person's manhood, but also to their authority as a handler. Right now many people would probably be saying, "but a person calling another person's name during sex isn't abnormal at all". And that's true. So, we still don't have strong evidence of my claim yet. I think my claim sense seems possible at this point, but maybe a little far fetched. Let's keep going.

Verse 1:

I hear your voice

It's like an angel sighing

I have no choice

I hear your voice

Feels like flying

I close my eyes

Oh God, I think I'm falling

Out of the sky

I close my eyes

Heaven, help me

This whole verse is actually kind of obvious when you think about it in terms of hypnotic mind control and disassociation. Why is his voice "like an angel sighing". That's weird. Not a very sexual or romantic thought, in my opinion. Oral sex in general isn't very holy. But now we get to "I have no choice". Now come on, why the F would she be saying she has no choice? It's because it's mind control. Then, she again stresses that she hears his voice, ie hypnotic commands - this is why she has no choice. After the commands she feels like she is flying, closes her eyes, and thinks she's falling. This is dropping further into hypnotic trance - disassociation. Have you seen 'Get out'? That's a good example. So, she closes her eyes. She then says "Heaven help me" (likely to herself). WHY WOULD SHE SAY THAT? It's because she's under mind control and she is asking heaven for help, literally.

Chorus repeats, and then Verse 2:

Like a child

You whisper softly to me

You're in control

Just like a child

Now I'm dancing

It's like a dream

No end and no beginning

You're here with me

It's like a dream

Let the choir sing

Do people typically think of their partner as being "like a child" during oral sex? No, it's weird af right? It's like a child because that is literally how the man is issuing commands, and that's why the man is in control - because she is under mind control. It's like a dream because she has been hypnotized.

After this the chorus repeats, and then there is a reprise of the intro, and then the Bridge:

Just like a prayer, I'll take you there

It's like a dream to me (Mmmm...)

Just like a prayer, I'll take you there (I'll take you there)

It's like a dream to me (Oh, oh-oh-oh yeah)

Just like a prayer, I'll take you there (I'll take you there)

It's like a dream to me (Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah)

Just like a prayer, I'll take you there (Oh, yeah)

It's like a dream to me (Oh, oh)

She keeps stressing that it's like a dream to her because the song is about mind control. She's been hypnotized.

Next the chorus repeats again, but with some changes:

Just like a prayer

Your voice can take me there

Just like a muse to me

You are a mystery

Just like a dream

You are not what you seem

Just like a prayer, no choice

Your voice can take me there

Again, she stresses the voice. In particular his voice can take her "there". He is his handler, and his commands put her in a hypnotic trance. Then later in this chorus she also stresses again that she has no choice. Again, she is saying that because she is being mind controlled. Why else is she stressing that she has no choice. She is telling everyone what she has been going through with this song.

Outro:

It's like a prayer, your voice can take me there

It's like a prayer

It's like a prayer, your voice can take me there

It's like a prayer

It's like a prayer, your voice can take me there

It's like a prayer

It's like a prayer, your voice can take me there

It's like a prayer

Over and over she says that it's like a prayer, but also over and over stresses that his voice can 'take her there. What else would she be saying, that she orgasms from the guy's voice? That doesn't make sense. If someone acknowledges that this song is also about oral sex, they should acknowledge that there are many lyrics in here that don't make any sense at all. But it all makes sense if the song is about being controlled hypnotically.
