have you ever had your bike stolen?

I'm in 1st year of uni and doing a project where I have to design a bike lock. has anyone here had their bike stolen? if so what type of lock were you using and what was the bike's value? Also, let me know if you have any ideas on how to design a product to prevent bike theft. thanks
