Dads who cook: How to build a habit?

So, I want to build a habit of cooking for my little family. I want to start early, so our little one perceives home cooking as normal and take out as something extra (for context, over the past years we had so little time that we mostly relied on take out and ready-made meals, but we are on a mission to change that). My problem is, I don't know where to start. How do I approach this? How do I build the necessary skills? What are the basics? How to integrate cooking into everyday life? How to decide when to cook what? How to avoid preparing the same three boring meals over and over again? My problem is not the cooking itself. I am capable of following a recipe. My problem seems to be the organization around it, actually deciding for a meal, and making it a habit.

So, dads of reddit, spill your secrets: How did you become master chefs? How did you build a routine?
