Journal app recommendation
I’m looking for a journaling app where you can keep track of your interactions with all the various people in your life, e.g., people at work, your friends, your family, etc. So, ideally, I would be able to quickly identify all the entries that reference a particular person.
I’m currently using Day One, but Day One does not have this functionality. It has tags, but those are cumbersome to use and don’t work well if you know multiple people with the same names.
I’ve also tried using Obsidian with its backlinking functionality, but it doesn’t have the ease of use of Day One. One of the things I like to do is note down a memorable experience and include photos on my phone, and there’s just a bit too much friction with Obsidian for me to want to consistently do that. I did like Obsidian’s backlinking and ability to use aliases.
To sum up, I would like a journaling app that has the following: - The ease of use of Day One, including that having an easy to use mobile (iPhone) app that allows you to quickly write down impressions that are automatically location-tagged. It would be great if the app also allowed you to easily attach photos. Bonus points if the app incorporates the iPhone’s Journal Suggestions function. - Have a desktop app (Mac or cross-platform). - Sync with iCloud, Google Drive, etc. I would prefer not to sync with the app’s own servers unless the app has a solid, multiple-year reputation for keeping entries secure and private. - Have something like a backlinks feature that would let me keep track of my entries about different people.
I don’t mind paying for the app, since I do believe that you get what you pay for, and I’m wary of free apps that monetize using your data.
Thanks for your help!
