Recent trip review
Just back from a recent trip to Disneyland Paris, where we stayed for 3 nights at the Cheyenne Hotel. My partner and I are a young couple with no children, and while we aren’t hardcore Disney fans, having been to Paris before, we thought we’d give Disney a try while also making a couple of trips into the city centre.
The journey from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Disneyland Chessy train station was really straightforward, with the TGV taking just 8 minutes. However, it’s quite pricey at nearly €40 one way for a couple. Chessy station itself was a bit of a letdown – not at all what you’d expect from Disney, more like a typical run-down train station. There weren’t many signs directing us to the buses, but we eventually found the right one for the Cheyenne Hotel. It was a short 3-minute ride, and we dropped our bags at luggage storage since it was only 11 am.
We then hopped back on the bus to head straight to the studios. Being a Saturday, I expected the parks to be packed, but it wasn’t too bad at all. We really enjoyed Mickey the Magician and the Pixar show, even though we’re not big Disney fans. The wait times for rides were reasonable, never over 40 minutes. Tower of Terror was our favourite, with Avengers and RC Racer close behind.
That evening, we had a reservation at Walt's, and sadly, it was very disappointing. For €55 each for the set menu, we expected decent food, but the quality was poor. The pea soup was basic, the chicken pot pie was flavourless, and the chicken breast was dry and tough. After complaining about the chicken, they replaced it, but it was still dry and tough, more like mass-produced cruise ship food than a premium Disney dining experience.
Day 2: A Trip to Versailles On the second day, we took the RER to Paris and onto Versailles. It took about 1.5 hours in total, and we used the Paris Visite pass, which cost around €44 for 2 days covering zones 1-5. The journey was simple, and we had a great time at Versailles. We even watched the equestrian show there, which I’d definitely recommend.
Day 3: Disneyland Park & Paris We planned to spend the morning at Disneyland Park, but we started with the Magic Hour at the Studios to ride Crush’s Coaster. The gates opened at 08:25, and we were queuing for Crush at 08:30. Unfortunately, the ride didn’t start until 08:55, and we didn’t get on until 09:10, which felt like a big chunk of Magic Hour was wasted. After that, we rushed to Disneyland Park and managed to ride Big Thunder Mountain, Phantom Manor, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Hyperspace Mountain. All of them were great!
What really impressed me was the theming throughout the park. The Halloween decorations were hit or miss—while the entrance to the park and Frontierland looked fantastic, the rest of the park could have done with more decorations for the season.
At 13:00, we headed back to Paris to take in some of the sights. The weather was perfect with clear blue skies. The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and Notre Dame all looked stunning in the sunlight.
Final Day: Relaxing at the Parks We spent our last day at the parks, revisiting some of our favourite rides and catching Mickey’s Halloween Parade. The parade wasn’t really for us, but it was a good time to let some of the queues die down.
Cheyenne Hotel As for the Cheyenne, it was clean, comfortable, and basic. Breakfast was just okay—nothing special and a bit overpriced for what it was. The service at the saloon bar could have been better. Despite only five tables being occupied, there were five staff members chatting, and we had to wave after 10 minutes to get their attention. It seemed other customers were equally frustrated with the slow service.
Final Thoughts Overall, we had a great time with a nice mix of Disneyland and Paris. The parks are excellent, even with all the ongoing construction. The staff were generally great, the hotel was satisfactory, and the transport options were very good. After reading many posts on here about people pushing in and queue jumping i was worrued, but i saw non of that, infact i didnt really see much bad behaviour at all. I’d go back to Disneyland Paris, but not anytime soon—maybe in 5+ years when there’s something new to see.
