I'm stopping tracking (>2500hours + >4m words read)
hey all. Just wanted to give a sort of update post about my future plans, as I have made updates at 2000, 1500, 1250, 1000, 750, 500 hours. Basically this update is just to say that I have decided to officially stop tracking my input. I am somewhere around 2600 hours but not exactly sure. I recently moved and so my input has fallen off a cliff as my habits are out of whack and as I have been trying to get back into the rhythm, I realized that, for whatever reason, the tracking was giving me trouble. For instance, I wouldn't get spanish input in moments where I wanted to but wasn't able to track it and just became a little bit resistant to getting input at all. I haven't had that happen in the 2.5 years of learning spanish!
So I'm just going to try to get back into a groove where I consume content when I want to without thinking about it and ultimately, hope I will end up getting more input than I had been before but I guess we'll never know haha.
Given that, I probably won't have any more 'data' or nice round numbers to post about in the future so this (maybe) will be my final update. Anyway, I am really happy with my progress in Spanish and use Spanish in my everyday life. I can watch, listen to, and read almost everything I want to without difficulty. I can have long conversations with native speakers without much difficulty. I am constantly finding myself in random situations where I realize I have no idea how to say that seemingly basic super specific thing (like how to say a flat tire! lol) but nevertheless can pretty much always get my point across in those situations. I consistently get compliments on my accent from both native spanish speakers and other spanish learners (especially those who have followed a more traditional class/grammar/apps approach) and have really enjoyed the journey so far.
I am definitely a perfectionist and so I keep telling myself that I will 'just get 6 more months of input to really lock everything in and then switch to a new language' but then the 6 months pass and I still want to get better at Spanish haha so at least for now, I'm just going to keep rolling.
anyway, feel free to AMA if you have any questions!
