Delayed Tax Forms at Fidelity cause problems
I have had 2 tax preparers retire in the last 4 years. It has become nearly impossible to find an income tax preparer that is taking on new clients unless they are also going to be your financial advisor. I have tried using the DIY online tax-prep services but they have limitations that don't work for my taxes and paying for "premium" service is a joke.
I found a tax preparer for this year but he wants all the forms by March 1. What is laughable is that Fidelity says the holdup in one account is for a Goldman Sachs new issue CD that apparently MerrillLynch has had no trouble obtaining. The other account sites a holdup with one of Fidelity's own ETFs.
Fidelity, you need to get your tax act together and get the 1099s to your clients before the end or February. If other brokerages can do, you should be able to also.
