Do Ghouls need Starched Genes?

I haven't seen anything about this recently and as the update approaches and I'm working on possible builds I was wondering what the current status on the PTS was. I know early on in the testing people were saying that things seemed to be buggy and they were able to pick up random mutations from radiation, but I was wondering if that was still the case.
