RPGs with a real sense of "rags to riches" and minimal story

I love classic WoW because of how excited you can get with weapon drops off common mobs until dozens of hours later when you're getting then from dragons and dungeons. I want a game that has that sort of feel where every good gear drop matters a ton but comes slowly
