Is America 1 or 2 continents on your country's education

I'm Mexican and here we get taught in elementary school that America is 1 continent subdivided on north, center and south, but in USA they get taught that North America and South America are two different continents that englobe "the Americas" Wich is a concept that does not exist in Mexico or it's educational system.

I have the impression that USA did this to take the name America for themselves and became part of their education and they want the rest of the world to do the same, I might be wrong though, so I want to know how is this taught in other countries.

Edit: please tell wich country you are from on your comments, obviously people from USA will think it's 2 continents based on their education but at the end of the day it is a subjective and cultural matter, I just want to know how this is taught in other countries, it's not about what "Americans" think.

Edit2: Thanks to all the replies now I get that it seems to be something that gets taught differently depending on the language but on the English speaking world there is 2 American continents and probably most of the rest of the world even though there are not many answers from people from other countries, it also makes more sense on a geographical sense to be 2 separate continents.

Also It does bug me and a lot of latinamericans that the US gets called America and their people Americans because it seems to diminish the rest of the continent (or continents) excluding us from the term on an imperialistic way, and the division of the Americas is awfully convenient for that, but I get that it is just what it is and don't have anything against Americans because of it, neither I think it's people's fault or anything like that, I do think USA should get a proper name some day but that is almost impossible at this point.

I'm glad so many people answered so I can expand my view on the world, thanks again to everyone.
