From a near 10-year absence, WOW Giant Bomb has changed.

I grew up with games during the golden age of GameSpot, with Kasavin, Gertsmann, Shoemaker, Davis, Navarro etc, etc, so when Kasavin left, and then Gertsmann was fired for the Kane & Lynch review, I felt "homeless", until they started Giant Bomb and most of the old crew came over, it was pretty awesome. It honestly felt like everything that made GameSpot so great during that era, distilled into pure form. It really was about all of those personalities--probably the most stacked lineup of games journalists in games journalism history. They were the entire reason you went to GameSpot, and then Giant Bomb.

I was super invested in the website and followed it on a daily basis but kind of fell off just around the time Patrick Klepek left, simply because I moved and started college and life kind of just went on, but tonight I randomly remembered that this website exists, so I went to check it out, and uhhhhh what on earth!? I looked into it more only to realize that every single last original personality is pretty much gone, including Vinny and Drew Scanlon. And Jeff was fired... AGAIN!? Not gonna' lie that's kind of funny in a really tragic, poetic irony sort of way. He created this beautiful website as a testament against the corporate nonsense, only for it to end in the same exact way.

I know it's not really my place here, but just coming from a perspective of pure nostalgia, the heart and soul of Giant Bomb from the very beginning really was the cast of characters, the old GameSpot guard, and now that's gone.

I know I'm not an actual part of this community. Again, it's been about 10 years since I've visited the site, so I don't mean to come here and stomp all over something a lot of people might really enjoy or love today. But as someone who was with them from the very beginning, from even before the beginning, it's really really sad, not gonna' lie.

Edit: Accidentally wrote Dan Scanlon instead of Drew. Fixed it.

EDIT: A lot of comments seem to take this as an attack on the current state of Giant Bomb. That wasn't my intent at all. I didn't really explore the new site to any serious capacity and I have no strong opinions on it as it stands now. This post was not to criticize whatever it is now, but rather just to ponder on how weird it was to return and see that all of the original personalities are gone, given the origin of the website, it's just a strange surreal realization and change. Yes, I know things/websites change. Yes, I understand that maybe the website is cool now. But, if you left your hometown for a decade, and came back and it was completely different, it would be a really weird feeling, no? Would you not feel some sense of nostalgic loss, regardless of the new state of the town? I guess I'm just sentimental, and thought maybe others would relate. That was my entire intent, I wasn't trying to rain on your parade or the new state of the site/community, but if that's how you took it, I apologize. Also, I removed the part where I said, "What's even the point anymore" because yeah that is unfair and uncalled for to write.
