Howard's Retirement

I was listening to Wednesday's Wrap Up show and Gary and Jon were talking about Howard's potential retirement; including venue, style (variety), and timing / content of related events (dinner with the cast).

Gary mentioned that he was impressed with how SNL did their weekend-long thing for their recent 50th celebration.

The Stern Show and SNL are very similar, with one huge exception. Initially, the Stern Show was essentially focused on Howard (and Robin, but he considers her the audience, so she doesn't count). Whereas, SNL has never been about one person, and that's what makes the show special; it's the cast (and crew) that are responsible for its continued success.

And love them or hate them, the cast of the Stern Show are a thing. Some are legit funny and others have figured out the hosting thing (I love Gary and Jon's dynamic). The Show can stand its own without Howard.

So have a retirement variety show where everyone can say thank you / goodbye to Howard. He can then pass the baton to Gary and Jon and they can carry on his legacy. Call it "Stern's Show" or something. Same format, more or less; but we'd have more day-to-day current event discussions (no guitar talk and door knocking), sports talk, and check ins with the staff we love, whack packers, etc.
