Bringing home an adult husky soon, any tips/advice?
I’m bringing home a 5 year old female husky from my local shelter in a few days! She’s my first husky, and second dog in my adult life. I’ve done ample research on the breed and history of the breed, and met tons and tons of huskies (I work in the boarding industry), but I wanted to see if you all have any advice for a first time husky parent! I’m fully prepared for what i’m expecting (frequent brushing to keep her coat mat free, lots of walks and hikes, the stubborn nature, the silliest dog i’ll ever have) but you can never be too prepared :)
some things i’m unsure about/would like some advice on: - I have two cats, who have lived well with dogs before, and the husky doesn’t seem to have much in terms of prey drive, although that might be an effect of the shelter environment? slow gradual introductions will hopefully help - destructive tendencies when bored: i will absolutely be crate training her for safety and giving her as much enrichment as possible, but as a renter i’d prefer to keep any damage to a minimum - training: i’m expecting the average husky sass and stubbornness, but i’m curious about how training has gone?
overall i’m super excited to be able to bring her home :)
