Employees do not know.
the last few days have been absolutely hectic. Ever since finding out that our store will be closing, we’ve experienced more customers than ever, yet still having skeleton crews. Today, Friday, was by far the most insane day I’ve worked. I come in at 9:00 AM and already by 9:30 there is a line wrapping around the cut counter and then an even bigger line at check out. There was only two of us working until noon. All day customers were rushing us, being rude and impatient. Asking the same questions of “when will this store be closing?” “What will the sales be?”
I don’t know. What I do know is that I’m losing my job. A job I’ve had for years. There’s no compassion or respect for the employees. We as employees are finding things out at the same pace as customers. Corporate is keeping us in the dark. Until about 4:00 PM was finally when the lines started to die down, but from 9:30-4:00 it was non stop lines. Non stop interaction. I assumed since today is Valentines Day, it wouldn’t be too busy. But by 2:00 PM we already had made almost $20,000 in sales, which was about the amount we made on Black Friday. We filled all our carts up with fabric until they were overflowing and we had to use bakers carts. Almost three full bakers carts of fabric. On top of the go backs at the cut counter.
Tomorrow, the 15th, liquidation starts. If today was the busiest day we had in a long time, I’m nervous to see what the future holds. There’s just not enough people working to fill the demand.
And on top of that, we had to lock our bathrooms because we are all out of toilet paper and don’t know when/if we will receive anymore. This is quickly turning to a disaster for the workers, and I’m hoping that any other employees are hanging in there.
Please be kind. Please be patient. We cannot help it if there’s only 1 or 2 people working the register or cut counter. It’s not that nobody wants to work, It’s unfortunately the hand we were dealt.
