Dramas with a lot of angst/mystery/suspense?

Hey y’all, I just finished Queen of Tears which is the first k-drama that I’ve watched. I really couldn’t get into most k-dramas recs because I’m not a huge fan of the romance genre in general. I usually prefer stuff that has more stakes, drama, and excitement, but I feel like QOT did a beautiful job at balancing the romance with the corporate/family drama. I don’t mind romance in shows, but I find it uninteresting if it’s just romance through and through with no other plot-line.

I’m looking for shows that have romance that feels more raw and real. I liked the plot-line with the FL being terminally ill because it made me more emotionally invested and made the show a little darker. I liked seeing the main characters fall out of love and back in love multiple times because it supports the idea that love is a choice and not some magical feeling that never goes away. I also liked how the antagonist was a representation of infatuation, not true love.

Like I mentioned before, I want something that’s not just centered around romance. I like shows that show the dynamics between the upper and lower classes. The chaebol structure in QOT really drew me in. The secrets and corruption in the family added the perfect amount of suspense that I’m looking for. The main antagonist’s antics also kept me on the edge of my seat.

I should add that I tried watching It’s Okay To Not Be Okay and couldn’t get through it. The behavior of the FL didn’t sit right with me at all and I can’t see how they can make me believe that the ML will end up falling for her regardless. Is it worth finishing?

Also there doesn’t have to be romance at all. I really like thrillers/mysteries and am currently watching The Lies Within. Any shows recs similar to that would be great.
