when life gives you tangerine ended now i don't know what to do with my life
If anyone asks me what kdrama you should watch at least once in your life I will suggest "When life gives you Tangerines"
As an Asian daughter from a middle class family this drama hit close to home. The relationship between parents and children is so beautiful and painful at the same time. When they love you with their whole existence, you feel guilty for not being able to make it up to them. Whereas when they see more privileged families, they feel guilty for not being able to provide the same for you. Both sides can never reach a middle ground. That itself is the beauty of the relationship. How you end up taking out your frustration on your parents even if you are not frustrated with them. We might not say 'I love you' a lot but we love each other the same.
People nowadays sees giving up on one's dreams as cowardly. The sacrifices the previous generation made to create a better future for their families is often looked down upon. This drama showed how even if their lives might not meet everyone's criteria of success, the lives they have lived and everything they have done is no short of something to be proud of.
This is what I love about fiction it can give you perspective into others lives which we might not notice in real life. This drama made me want to cherish the relationships I have and be kinder to the people around me. I wouldn't be where I am without them.
