Which setting to use for “normal”?

My understanding is that “heavy duty” is for thicker, sturdier fabrics like towels, and then “knit/delicate” is pretty self-explanatory. I usually just use perm press for everything else and adjust the temperature accordingly in all cases, but I’m not sure that’s right? I’m also not sure what the “prewash” and “soak” section is for…
