Does accuracy with iron sights on a pistol mean anything for long guns?
Over the past 4 months I have practiced Dry firing and shot over 1000 rounds. Private instruction this past week reinforced that my practice has paid off. Good clusters with some fliers here and there at 50ft using irons.
This called some presumsions I have had about my self a guns to light. I always assumed I would be inaccurate with a firearm and assumed the best long gun for hunting and defense would be a shot gun for me.
So for home defense, I have my 686 with 357. I am accurate with it up to 50ft with it, fist-ish sized groupings. I know practice and becoming comfortable with your specific firearm is the only way to improve.
Should I go for a rifle instead of a shotgun? Will the skills I have with a revolver translate to or be a solid foundation for a rifle?
Edit: thanks everyone. I am going to start exploring rifles and see what's comfortable and has good available ammo. I really appreciate the support and honesty. This is all new territory for me.
