33 too old?

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place but I'm 33 and will be 34 in November and I barley found out about the merchant marine field. I've done some research and would like to be come an engineer. From what I've read I need a twic card, physical and MMC/wiper credentials, is that right? Also, am I too old for this job? What's the pay like for a starting wiper?
