Yesterday Oscar Tshiebwe had 41 points, 36 rebounds, and was +50 in 59 minutes.
Oscar Tshiebwe, for the second time this year, played heavy minutes in a morning G-League game for the SLC Stars, and then suited up and played significant minutes for the Utah Jazz in the evening.
He put up 37, 26, and was a +40 in 41 minutes in his game with the Stars. Then he put up 4, 10 and was a +10 in 18 minutes against the Wizards.
It is likely the most minutes in a day for an NBA player since Paul Millsap on Jan 19th 2017. The only other players I can find who played in two games in the same day are Tyler Kolek who logged 52 minutes across two games on Jan 1st this year, and Malachi Flynn who logged 38 minutes across two games on 02/08/2021 (he had to fly from Salt Lake City to Milwaukee in the same day which is extra impressive). Oscar seems to be the only one who has done it twice, having done the same on March 2nd.
A couple quotes from Q&A with Tshiebwe after the Jazz game:
On what it’s like to play nearly 60 minutes in a day:
“You’ve got to be a machine to do that.”
What do you do in between two games in one day?
“Eat and sleep. I need to stretch a lot too. And I read. That’s what I do.”
Do you ever feel like too much is being asked of you?
“No. The season will finish soon and I will sleep for two weeks. I’m good. This is a great chance, it is a blessing to be here. It doesn’t matter if they asked me to play five games in 24 hours.”
