Shrek nickname- is it racist?

So on Foreign Fridays’ video in the chat section some people stated they thought the nickname “Shrek” was dehumanising and racist.

I have used it but I absolutely do not use it (consciously) as a racist slur. To me Emeka has a very similar bulky, flat, bald head to Shrek. They both are thicccc.

I am a poc (half Indian/half English) and personally get annoyed when people want to label everything as racist (of course calling out racism is extremely important). I feel like it’s always a self report that you have race so heavily on the mind and view everything through that lens. But equally if it is offensive then obviously that is not acceptable.

That being said I think it’s important we discuss this. It’s not an accusatory post (I’ve certainly referred to Emeka in such terms) but I feel it needs to be addressed.
