Can equip my fishing rod but can't do anything

So I went with Javier to a little fishing spot for bass in the woods and I was standing on this rock casting, then when I failed to hook anything I reset my line and walked down to a smaller rock in front of me, kinda made a slipping returned to my spot, and now I can't cast my rod. I can switch baits but that's it. Do I need to restart the game? Ffs

EDIT: I just threw a knife at a fish, resetting the mission and now it's all good. Strange.
