California Road Trip advice
First time going to US and California. I'm planning on doing a 19-day road trip with my wife (Mid February to early March). This is my current travel plan:
- Days 1-3: Los Angeles (tourism and shopping)
- Days 4-5: Disneyland and Universal Studios
- Day 6: San Diego
- Day 7: Morning in San Diego, take the road to Santa Barbara around lunchtime to avoid traffic around greater LA
- Day 8: Drive to San Simeon with stops at Morro Bay and to watch some elephant seals. Go back to take Route 101 up to Monterey
- Day 9: Big Sur - Plan to drive to at least McWay Falls and then come back to Carmel/Monterey.
- Day 10: Monterey
- Day 11: Silicon Valley (Computer History Museum and other places), get to SF by night
- Days 12-15: San Francisco (including Muir Woods and Sausalito)
- Days 16-17: Yosemite
- Days 18-19: Drive back to LA and flight back home
I'd like some feedback and recommendations on it. Does it seem reasonable? I'm sure two days aren't enough to fully enjoy Yosemite, but I assume I should be able to enjoy most of what is available. Too bad I won't be able to see the firefall by a week.
Also, I've been thinking about getting a Mustang convertible for better enjoying the PCH and Yosemite views, but I'm also afraid of being an easy target for break-ins. I don't plan on using the car in SF to avoid that, but is that enough? Should I also be afraid of that when parking in LA and San Diego? I know I'll mostly be driving with the top on and that the trunk is smaller, but the experience must be awesome.
If I don't get a convertible, I'm thinking about getting a Challenger. Would that also be an easy target?
Thanks for all the tips!
