stop being wierd

some of us are losing our common sense when it comes to writing on cups. i see it online and i see it in my store. we are lucky that most people give the benefit of the doubt but we need to stop and think about how our messages will be taken by the customer.

examples:

-“help” and “save me”

-cups with meme references or long quotes given to older customers who get confused

-alternate silly names for the drink that make people think they have the wrong order

-notes about the customers order?? if its not “nice choice” its inappropriate

-elaborate drawings, these are fun to save for fun custies you made a connection with, but think about the embarassment it might cause for a someone in a professional, serious environment

-jokes and references! i see so many jokes being handed off at my store that could be taken the wrong way if the person doesnt know the orgin!

-illegible handwriting; so many posts of people asking what was written on their cup. if you write like shit just draw a star or smiley.

-anything that can be construed as controversial (Ice, politics, america, economy, etc)

TL;DR please keep it short, sweet, and SAFE for customers that you do not know! “youre amazing”, “have a great day”, inoffensive doodles like flowers and stars. i know writing on every cup is hard and were trying to make it fun, but the goal is to make customers feel empowered and uplifted, not confused or worse, offended. lets keep having fun and save the silly stuff for good-natured regulars!

edit: the insults are unnecessary. im a regular barista and ive been searching for a different job ever since i got this one. if you arent having issues at your store thats great. i write silly faces and jokes but theres a line and all the bullet points i included were based on bad or awkward interactions that weve had at my store.
