Why does Steins;Gate (VN installed via JAST) keep crashing when using Wine?
This is a fairly technical question; I apologize if this subreddit is not the correct place to post this (please feel free redirect me to a more appropriate subreddit if need be).
Just a few days ago, I decided to start getting into playing visual novels. I heard that JAST is a popular website used for purchasing/downloading visual novels, so that is what I used to install Steins;Gate.
After lots of failed attempts to install Steins;Gate directly with Lutris and Wine on my Debian OS (Linux), I decided to just give in and install it separately on a Windows OS (which worked perfectly). I still wanted to, however, play Steins;Gate with my Linux computer, so I tried exporting/moving all of the relevant files accordingly.
After this, I tried running Steins;Gate using Lutris to setup the appropriate environment for running Steins;Gate with the prefix .../Games/steins-gate
and with the appropriate executable (in this case .../Steins;Gate/STEINSGATE.exe
) and even via Wine independently. Both times, Steins;Gate successfully starts, and runs until it gets passed the disclaimer. Unfortunately, before it even gets to the titlescreen, the application stops responding.
If anyone needs anymore information (such as that which pertains to my system/hardware, any logs produced by Lutris/Wine or otherwise, etc.), I'll be happy to help. Thank you very much!
Also, I do not know much about Steins;Gate (I've only watched a few episodes of the Anime) for I've been waiting until I can properly play the visual novel, so no spoilers please!
EDIT:
It turns out, I needed to install some 32-bit dependencies for gstreamer (which is used by Wine).
I greatly appreciate the additional resources anyone has provided to me. They will be of great help in the future!
