At a press conference today, Thiem informed about his plans for the season:

- is close to coming to an agreement with a new touring coach, doesn't reveal name but says he is not Austrian
- has changed plans for the coming months, will train more at home with his dad
- will play challengers
- will play Davis Cup and UTS
- will not play the US tournaments
- will decide what to do after playing 3 challengers in March
- says he sees it as his last chance and explains that the previous two seasons he ended around world no. 100 and no. 98 and if his ranking at the end of this season is the same, one has to think about whether it's still worth it
- goal for this season is top 50
- says he doesn't do it for the money
- new coach will not be a big name or star coach, also won't be Bresnik, but someone else who has known him since he was young
