How do the saves on this game work?

I noticed there’s a folder inside my documents folder called “avalanche studios” does all game progress save here meaning that if I had to do a OS reinstall for whatever reason that my progress will be reset or does the game actually save elsewhere maybe like steam cloud or something ?
