Responding to client jokes

I love to laugh with my clients - and I think I do that plenty! However lately I have noticed myself struggling with things said by clients in a joking manner.

Like some of the jokes I hear are very off putting (when I don’t think they mean to be) and I think it makes my clients nervous if I don’t laugh at them. Or I just get exhausted when a client has told the same joke for the fourth time that session when I wasn’t amused the first time.

I’m not talking the dark humor that we can explore together. Just regular mundane jokes that could happen in any interaction.

Anyone else feel like this? I don’t want to put down the humor of my clients and hurt their feelings but I also just wear out quickly when this happens and it’s hard for me to give an inauthentic response to the humor.
