Skilled Worker made redundant
Hi there, first time posting and looking for advice.
I am a New Zealand citizen living in the UK and was sponsored by my employer on a Skilled Worker visa. Unfortunately, I was made redundant at the end of last year. As of yet, I have not received an email / letter from Home Office advising me that my visa has been curtailed (and I am currently searching for a job with sponsorship).
Technically, I am still sponsored by my previous employer as my BRP doesn't expire until July 2026, although factually I am obviously no longer employed. I understand that one option could be to move to a Spousal visa as my partner is a UK citizen and we have lived together for over 2 years, although the wording dictates that I need "at least 6 months left on my visa".
Given that my BRP doesn't expire until July 2026, would I be allowed to move on to a Spousal visa - notwithstanding the fact that my visa could be curtailed at any moment by the Home Office?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
TLDR: Can you move from Skilled Worker visa to Spousal visa if you are made redundant and no longer employed?
UPDATE: Very thankful to report that I received a job offer last week for a new role, with sponsorship. It took 8 months but finally got there! I also never received a curtailment letter / email, so it feels like things are pretty slow moving with the Home Office - which hopefully gives some comfort to the other people out there looking to get sponsored.
My Skilled Worker visa also came through (with Priority) in 2 business days, which was such a huge relief.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about my process - and best of luck to everyone out there! It's a really tough job market right now, especially if you require sponsorship.
