How to convert flight credit to…

I have approx 400 usd on flight credit under my wife and some under my name. I can’t use her when booking for my own flights even though the credit is listen in my own United miles account. I am looking for a way around this that you might know to trick their system so that I can ultimately use the credit for a future purchase without having to be limited by a persons name on the reservation.
