I'm doing year 11 English next year and I need some tips. English isn't my main subject, I'm very good at maths. To those who were in my position, who were very good at maths, bad at English, then became super good at English earning 45+,what made that change occur?

What did you do differently in year 11 and 12 that made such a change? How did you find the motivation to study for a subject that you thought you were going to do terrible at? Do you think if someone did the exact same process as you, they would be able to get 45+? Please if you can, make your answers as detailed as possible so that I and others may benefit from this.
