Found in a science lab - Glass bulb with liquid inside

I’m a teacher and I’m cleaning out a lot of old stuff from my storage room. This thing is filled with a liquid. I first thought it was a hand boiler, but it doesn’t work like that. Any old school science teachers know what this is?
