“We couldn't send an SMS to your number. Please check your number and try again in 1 hour”

Hi,

I am trying to setup a WhatsApp account for the first time. But I’m already having issues with just getting the verification code. When I provide my number, I keep getting the message “We couldn't send an SMS to your number. Please check your number and try again in 1 hour”. This also happens when I try to recieve the code as a phone call. I’ve waited the 1 hour to try again to no avail. I’ve also reset my iPhone, uninstalled then reinstalled the app, disabled my VPN, and even disconnected from WiFi but still no luck.

I’ve already attempted to message WhatsApp support as well but when I click “Send Question”, it gets stuck and doesn’t go through. I tried both my phone and laptop on different browsers but nothing has worked.

(Edit: Finally got a hold of support but they’ve been no help, either. It’s been nothing but automated replies.)

Final Update: So after multiple attempts and zero support from WhatsApp, I was finally able to receive the code and create an account. There was no solution involved. Just kept opening the app every so often and it suddenly worked.
